I used two different types of Personal Learning Networks on Twitter. The first being an educational Twitter,https://twitter.com/bkindler46, where I tweeted my ideas and concepts from readings. This was a way for me to keep my ideas all in one place, but also became a Personal Learning Network because other educators and classmates followed my tweets and I followed theirs. We were able to tweet at each other and comment on each others ideas.
Next, I "participated" in a Twitter Chat. The idea of a Twitter Chat is for a group of people to have a discussion, but all on Twitter. They agree on a time to sign on and on a hashtag. While researching Twitter Chats, I found http://thejournal.com/articles/2013/09/23/13-twitter-chats-for-educators.aspx which talks about educational Twitter Chats and names thirteen of the most popular ones. I found this website very helpful for a beginner, because It gave tips and some of the popular chats to participate in. The Tweet Chat that I participated in was http://tweetchat.com/room/edchat. I went to the website http://www.tweetchat.com and used the hashtag #edchat. This took me to a chat where people all tweeted about education. They posted links, articles, and ideas that I could follow. I did not post in this one because I felt intimidated, but I think the idea of this is very cool. It is a great Personal Learning Network because it can connect people from all over the world to have a discussion. I could also see having my own Twitter Chat in my classroom as a way of keeping students involved during a lesson or activity.
Pinterest
Pinterest is awesome! I first discovered Pinterest several years ago, but for personal use. I have used Pinterest to get ideas for Do It Your Own crafts and jewelry ideas ofter. I recently found that I can find activities and lesson plans on it. In the tool bar, I can search either very broad terms such as the subject I am teaching or very specific terms like what I am focusing on. I love using Pinterest as a Personal Learning Network because I can see and use other teachers creative ideas to help develop my own AND I can share my own lessons and activities with others. This is a great resource and such an awesome PLN!
Blog
One of my Personal Learning Networks is a personal, but educational blog. I started this blog for my Instructional Technologies class, but will continue with it. My blog posts are all on different topics, but all focusing on the 21st century learner. I included this as one of my PLNs because I learned a lot from my reading in class and wanted to share them with others. You can find my blog at http://bkindler46.blogspot.com/.
